Respiratory virus activity is high or rising in most of the US and hasn’t peaked

In spite of the fact that the respiratory virus season has already begun in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States warns that the peak of the season is still to come. As a result of low vaccination rates, a large number of individuals are at risk for major diseases, and health care systems are susceptible to increased strain.

Hospitalizations caused by COVID-19 are going up at a rapid rate. Since the summer, officials in charge of public health have been monitoring an increase in the number of children who are experiencing multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C), which is brought on by COVID-19. The number of cases of influenza is increasing over the majority of the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted in a report posted on its website on Thursday that RSV activity is still high in many locations.

The number of hospital beds available for children in many regions of the country is already very close to being at the same level as it was around this time last year. It is possible that the situation that occurred at the end of this month would once again put a burden on emergency departments and hospitals if these tendencies persist.

As a result of the strain placed on the healthcare system, people who are suffering from various critical health disorders may have delays in receiving treatment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that during the week that ended on November 25, there were more than eight hospitalizations attributable to respiratory viruses for every 100,000 persons in the United States. This is a 52% increase over the previous month. The majority of those hospitalizations are still attributed to Covid-19; however, the number of hospitalizations for influenza and RSV is increasing at a quicker rate.
